Obituary


Ralph L. "Buddy" Martin, Jr., entered Heaven's gates on August 6, 2017.

He was born on July 26, 1943, to Alice Edna Todd and Ralph L. Martin, Sr. in Baptist Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas. He attended schools in Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and Tokyo, Japan. He worked for Exxon after high school until enlisting in the service.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964, serving at the missile base on the DEW line in Alaska and in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1966.

Before joining the family at Houston's First Baptist Church, Buddy was a member at Jersey Village Baptist Church where he worked avidly with the high school youth. He became a member of Houston's First Baptist Church in 1984 where he has worked diligently in preschool ministries. He faithfully worked with the children every Sunday.

Buddy is survived his wife of 50 years, Nancy J. Martin; daughter, Allison M. Vidales and her husband, Leroy Vidales and son Spencer Vidales; son, Trey Martin and his wife, Ashley Martin and grandson.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2017 at Houston's First Baptist Church. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Rick Jones and Rev. Dau Ayub, officiating. Interment will be in Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the school of Fine Arts of the music ministry at Houston's First Baptist Church.
